Holiday Gift Giving Idea - Snowman Jar

Items you’ll need:

Reuse an empty mayonnaise jar 32 oz. with two and a half inch diameter lid, plastic foam ball, paring knife, white paint, small float paintbrush, 5inch by 18 inch fabric strip, black felt, 3 inch length of orange paper twist, 6 straight pins with black heads, two 6 inch long twigs, 4 inch diameter black felt hat, one and three quarters inch diameter silk sunflower, Spanish moss, artificial bird, 3 three quarter inch diameter black buttons and glue.

1. Use your knife and cut one quarter inch from one side of the foam ball, forming a flat surface (bottom). Glue the flat bottom of the ball to the top of the jar lid.

2. Use the paintbrush to apply white paint to the ball; allow to dry.

3. For the nose, cut a on inch by three inch length from the paper twist. Roll the paper twist into a one inch long cone shape. Use a pencil to make a small indentation at the center of the ball for the nose. Glue the nose to the head.

4. For the eyes, cut two one quarter inch diameter circles from the felt. Glue the eyes to the head.

5. Insert the pins into the head for the mouth.

6. For the arms, glue the twigs to both sides of the jar lid.

7. For the scarf, tie the plaid fabric strip around the bottom of the ball.

8. Form the moss into a nest shape; glue the nest and the bird to the top of the hat. Glue the flower to the front of the hat. Glue the hat to the top of the head.

9. Glue the buttons to the front of the jar.

10. Fill the jar with your favorite instant winter beverage powder.

How to Make a Greenery Garland

Supplies and materials: Heavy twine or cord, #22 gauge spool of wire, wire cutters, clippers, and greenery.

Leaving a 2 ft. length of twine at the beginning, wire a small handful of pine, fir or other greenery sprigs approximately 8 inches log together at the stem ends. Hold this bunch on the twine and tightly wrap the spool of wire around the greenery and the twine. Don’t cut the spool of wire.

Continue to attach sprigs of greens to the front and back of the cord without cutting the spool of wire until you’ve completed the length of garland needed. The last bunch of greens may be wired to the twine in the opposite direction. This will cover the stem ends. Leave a 2 ft. length of twine at the end to secure to the area you are covering. Berries, fruits, and cones can be added for accents. The suggested greenery is one or more of the following such as pine, fir, boxwood, holly, cedar or other materials.
